Ok. So my most stressful exam is over. Unsure if I passed. Had to show a heap of confidence, even though I had close to none.
I was given a 9yr old patient (nice and old to cooperate), but getting her history was hard because she was an ESL patient who didn't know what was wrong with her eyes, and her father was hard to understand. It was messy.
Then she had 2 pairs of glasses to deal with. Looking at the prescriptions, I really wonder if the dad understands my questions.
I continue testing, finding her movements hard to interpret. As I go to measure them, I realise I've made a mistake in my initial testing, and have to change that.
Next time I know, I'm down from 40mins to 15. I speed up the process by skipping some tests, which if my initial testing is right, weren't required/ essential.
When I finish, I'm placed into a room to do my write-up. I state my diagnosis, its justification, her short term and long term goals and management, what extra tests I would have done if I had the time, and finally a report to the "ophthalmologist".
I feel confident in the stuff I wrote, until I look back at my initial testing and realise that if I wrote down that I saw something, which was wrong, I'm far gone. SO as I do a hazy post-mortem with my smart Honours friend, I realise I either passed with flying colours, or failed... with flying colours. I don't find out the results until end of the year, when I'm in Japan or HK.
But anyway, the hardest part of my semester (this entire 1/2 semester) is coming to a close. I have one more online Ethics exam before I head to Samoa. When I come back, I won't be "free" but alot more relaxed than before.
Something I have to "look forward" to, is performing a laser consult in none other than... Canto!! I can hardly explain a laser consult (ie the procedure) properly and succinctly in English.. my 1st language.. let alone in Cantonese yet! A language I understand relatively well, but speak around once or twice a week. Now that's going to be fun...
Anyway, as a form of procrastination from reading the stupid Ethics readings, I came online and saw that Sue had posted an item called "If I were a 70s Show character, I would be Jackie." Laughing when I saw this, because it's quite true, although Sue is probably a bit less conceited =P
Thought I'd do it too, and this is what I got
Which That 70's Show Character Are You? |
 | You are Donna. You are everyone's best friend. You are nice and polite and do your best to make everyone happy. Sometimes you wish that others would see you as more than just a friend, but you don't want to seem pushy. However, there is a crazy streak in you, and if you are crossed then you will not stop until payback has been given. You are well-liked and have your life planned out and you will make your dreams come true. |

Mmm.. so I'm told I sound like her, and now that's who I am most like too. Maybe I should just rename myself to Donna..
